Hi Hema,

1) What is the difference between hierarchies created for attribute view and analytic view?

We create hierarchy between attributes in modeler to improve the analysis for business users after the report is created.

We can create hierarchy in Attribute view only but not in Analytic view or Calculation view.

We can use hierarchy created in Attribute view in Analytic view under logical join of data foundation.

We can use hierarchy created in Attribute view in Calculation view using CE_JOIN_VIEW or CE_OLAP_VIEW functions.

If you try to create hierarchy in Analytic view then create icon will not be enable to do so.

2) If I explicitly include hierarchies in an attribute view, I noticed two column views - one for system generated hierarchy, and one for the hierarchy I created -  is that correct?

No. If you create hierarchy in attribute view then you can see the attribute name and also attribute name with hierarchy name in column views of _SYS_BIC as shown in below screen.

If we had not created hierarchy for the attribute view AT_HIER, then in column view you will see

HIER2.JPG

The system will create the hierarchy as /hier/attribute_view_name.
