Re: SAP HANA Update from SPS 80 to 84

Hi ,

First of all ,SAP has replaced revision 84 with 85(I am not sure about the reason)

1. Master guide says stop processes, what process should i stop?

Application servers,but not the DB (but while you upgrade DB onHA ,you need to stop the DB as well)

2.This is a BW on HANA system, anything specific do i have to take care before updating?

• Make sure you have a successful consistent Data backup
• on ABAP run the program BTCTRNS1 to deschedule the jobs
• Stop SLT replication
• Stop Cron jobs for Backup
• Confirmation from BW Consultant that the Queues are clear
• Screen shots of Overview Tab,Alerts tab

3.Any poststeps i have to take care of, after update?

• HANA Client Upgrade on the application instance(Solution manager, ECC,BI,SLT)
• Start SLT
• Start Cron Jobs
• Data Backup
• check for Error and warning on application and DB
• execute Program BTCTRNS2
• Functional checks

4.Should i ask all users not to use system till update is over?

• users has to be logged off on DB's however you have options to do the changes with zero downtime, for more information check the below SAP notes

I am updating server, hostagent and client? how about studio, it has to be updated from respective client machines , correct?
