I am not sure if I understand your question correctly. But one of the main problems with the separation is data timeliness. Even with optimized ETL processes, the data on the OLAP system will always be out dated.
Furthermore, keeping both systems in sync is an enormous data maintenance and data quality problem, especially for large companies. Not to mention the costs for maintaining two IT environments in parallel.
If it is possible to process all the enterprise data on one system, even analytics on transactional data, the so-called "one single source of truth" can be achieved.
